Common Questions About Giftedness Assessments
What is a Giftedness Assessment?
A Giftedness Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that measures a child's intellectual capabilities and learning potential. It helps identify strengths, challenges, and provides insights for personalized educational planning.
The Process
First Step: Initial Virtual Consultation
The assessment begins with an initial virtual meeting where we discuss the informed consent process, ensuring you understand and are comfortable with each step of the assessment. This session also allows us to delve into your child's developmental history and discuss your current concerns.
Second Step: In-Person Testing
Your child will complete one in-person testing that assesses various areas of cognitive ability and academic skills.
Third Step: Scoring Results and Report Writing
After testing, parents typically wait a week or two for the results to be scored and the report to be written by the psychologist.
Fourth Step: Results and Report
The assessment culminates in a personalized report that outlines areas of strength and challenge in learning, along with recommendations for the next steps in their educational journey.
Who can benefit from a giftedness assessment?
This service is ideal for any student who has always been an advanced learner and may find school boring or too easy. Advanced learners may struggle if their strengths are not recognized and teachers do not know how to enrich their learning.
Clarity on Strengths: Gain a comprehensive understanding of your child's intellectual strengths and how they can be leveraged for academic success.
Insight into Potential Challenges: Identify any potential areas of difficulty that may require additional support or intervention.
Program Planning: Use the assessment results to inform educational planning and ensure your child’s education matches their abilities and interests.
School Accommodations: Advocate for appropriate accommodations and enrichment opportunities at your child's school to enhance their learning experience.
What is the Cost?
Blue Door Psychological Services is offering this service at $250 per hour for 7 hours total for the complete assessment including a feedback session and cost of all testing materials. Clients are charged half of the cost of the assessment at the halfway mark (i.e., after the in-person testing) and the full amount at the end of the assessment once a feedback session is provided. A report is provided at the end of the assessment.
Will the assessment identify any learning disabilities?
While the primary focus of a Giftedness Assessment is to identify intellectual strengths, it can also highlight potential areas of challenge, including learning disabilities. If any concerns are identified, further evaluation may be recommended.
Who should consider a Giftedness Assessment for their child?
Parents who notice advanced learning abilities, exceptional problem-solving skills, or unique creative talents in their child may consider a Giftedness Assessment. It is also beneficial for children who may need specialized educational programs or accommodations.
How can the results of the assessment be used?
The results provide a detailed profile of your child's cognitive abilities and learning potential. This information can be used to inform educational planning, advocate for school accommodations, and identify areas where additional support may be needed.
